Ads Manager can look crowded the first time you open it, and that is completely normal. You only need to make six choices, and you can make them in one sitting. This is the order I follow, with the settings that matter most for a local business or a young startup.
Before you open Ads Manager
Have four things ready: a Facebook Page for your business (your ads run in the Page’s name), an Instagram professional account linked to it, a Meta Business account with an ad account and payment method, and a way to count results. If you want website sales, install the Meta Pixel. If you want WhatsApp messages or calls, check the number and make sure someone replies the same day. An enquiry that waits two days is usually lost.
Step 1: Choose one goal
Meta offers six objectives: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads, App promotion and Sales. Pick the one that matches the action you want. For enquiries from local customers, choose Leads, then pick where people should reach you: WhatsApp, Messenger, a call or an instant form. For online orders, choose Sales. Skip Awareness and Engagement for a first campaign, because they bring likes more reliably than customers.
Step 2: Set a budget you can leave alone
Use a daily budget. Meta’s guidance is that an ad set generally needs about 50 results in a week before delivery settles. Here is an example: if one lead costs ₹100, then 50 leads cost ₹5,000, which is about ₹715 a day. A smaller budget still works. It simply takes longer to settle, so be patient. Meta treats big edits to budget, audience or creative as a restart, so avoid changing things during the first week.
Step 3: Choose your audience
Set the location to Kannur and a radius that matches how far your customers travel. Keep the age range wide, and let Meta’s Advantage+ audience find people, using your interests only as hints. Very narrow audiences get expensive quickly and tire out fast.
Step 4: Let Meta choose placements
Start with Advantage+ placements, so your ad can appear on Facebook, Instagram, Reels and Stories wherever it performs best. Then preview each one, because a tall video can be cropped badly in the feed.
Step 5: Build the ad
Keep it to one offer, one image or video, and one button. Use a real photo of your product, shop or team over a stock image. For Reels and Stories, shoot vertically and show the result in the first three seconds. Write in the language your customers use, whether that is English, Malayalam or a mix. Choose a button that matches your goal, such as Send WhatsApp message.
Step 6: Publish, then read the right numbers
Wait three to seven days before judging. Look at cost per lead and the quality of enquiries, not likes. Ask yourself: did these people reply, and did any become customers?
Two things catch beginners out. The Boost button on a post is quick, but it gives you fewer goals and audience controls than Ads Manager, so use Ads Manager for real campaigns. And costs swing a lot in the first two days while Meta learns, so please do not panic. If results stay weak after a week, change one thing at a time: first the creative, then the offer, then the audience. Changing everything at once hides what actually worked.
